The Referring Employee’s Role
The employee’s role will be limited to the submission of the resume of the candidate. The employee making the referral will not, in any way, be involved with the shortlisting, interview or salary fixation of the candidate.
Recruitment Process
Referred candidates will undergo the same recruitment process as any other applicants. It’s important from a diversity and fairness perspective to give all candidates the same opportunity. Have you worked with the person before? Then, it is an extra decision point as you have seen a “work-life sample”, which is a high predictor for future performance.
Referral reward 💰
Local adoptions may occur when you are allegeable for the bonus and what the amount is – please check with your local HR or Recruitment team.

When referring a candidate directly to another country, you will still receive your local referral bonus.

Why this guide? | The purpose of this site is to give you the global guidelines for rewarding employees who help identify and attract suitable talents to join team Columbus. In the heartbeat ❤️ survey, we ask if you would recommend someone to work for us. Here is how you can make that happen. |
Applicability | This policy applies to all permanent employees of the organization; however, Human Resources, Internal Recruiters, Directors, and People Managers* will be excluded. The main reason being that it is part of their responsibility as a manager to help Columbus grow. Also, employees involved in the final hiring decision for a given role will not receive the referral bonus. *People Managers is a colleague with at least one direct report. |
Referring candidates – this is how it works

Start here
- Start by referring candidates who fit the role specifications given in vacant positions posted by HR or Recruitment. You may also refer someone proactively to a function that we might need in the future.
- Please ensure that you are referring to professional contacts that you know. Please avoid referring candidates whom you are not familiar with (e.g. a friend’s friend)
- It is expected that before referring, you have spoken to the candidate and have briefed him/her on Columbus to secure his/her interest.

Check GDPR and sell your referral
- If referring directly to a system, check with your tips if it is ok to store their information.
- When referring candidates, please mention why you think the candidate will make a good Columbian covering both professional and personal aspects.

First referral wins
- If more than one employee refers to a profile in an organization, then the first employee who uploads in the tool will be eligible. In some cases, there might be a cause for a split bonus.
- You may refer to any number of candidates.
- If the candidate already is in a current recruitment process without your referral, then it does not count as a referral
